HOUSE OF CURVES | BEAUTIFUL & COMPACT LUXURY APARTMENT

4 min read

An often asked question interior designers get from many homeowners is how much is the standard rate of renovating a home? How much does it cost to make my house beautiful?

In this project designed by Nu Infinity, we study the art of creating a lasting impact without breaking the bank. Explore the condo interior design of a 1,100 sq ft high rise property of a young couple who moved from Singapore to Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

One step into this beautiful abode, you’re immediately greeted by a mesmerizing curved archway with an inviting teaser to the rest of the open floor plan awaiting inside.

Curve elements reign supreme in this space from the graceful arches to the curved furniture and custom ceiling curves, setting the stage for a unique and cohesive interior. The colour palette for this home is a symphony of earthy tones blending together seamlessly to create a harmonious visual experience.

The impression of the space is heightened with the linear fluted panel and full high tailored-made curtains. Here’s a tip: If you want to achieve tidy and linear-looking curtains, go with S-fold curtains. The standard pencil pleats and butterfly pleats will not be able to achieve such linear strips.

At the start of renovation after months of discussion, a challenge arose. The original tiles that came with the house were popping out. Only after removing them, did the designers realise the tiles were hollow, causing a delay. Nu Infinity took it as a blessing in disguise, taking opportunity to change the plain flooring to timber floorboards.

Most newly built developer condominium units come with off-white tiles and a mediocre kitchen design chucked in thoughtlessly. Choosing a herringbone pattern for the floor imbued more character and warmth to the space, making it more cozy and inviting. What was once an ordinary and uninspiring area has been transformed into a sanctuary of style and comfort.

It is common practice in Nu Infinity to always take advantage of all the natural lighting that can be achieved from even an apartment. The client’s brief was to turn the initial open hall or guest room to the left of the entrance into a walk in wardrobe. Instead of closing up the wardrobe as a private enclosed room with walls, fluted sliding doors were installed.

This enlarges the impression of space and acts as a highlighted feature at the entrance. During the day it also allows natural lighting to permeate into the deeper end of the unit. In the kitchen area, the existing timber door leading to the laundry area was removed, and replaced with a fluted glass bi-fold door, saving space, allowing natural lighting in, and reducing noise from the freeways situated just outside.

At Nu Infinity, client interviews are taken seriously to extract sufficient details of the client’s daily lifestyles to curate their new dream home. Detailed measurements of displays were taken to create well-fitting display cabinets. All wirings were designed to be hidden to ensure a clean, well-kept environment.

The TV cabinet was designed to be larger than the length of the living area to make the entire open space feel larger in impression. Tailored to the client’s lifestyle, the smart home features included integrate sophisticated lighting control, creating different customisable atmospheres.

The client’s brief for the master suite was to fit a king-size bed, a wardrobe and still leave space for a study table. They also requested a modern luxurious design for the wall behind the headboard. Considering all these, Nu Infinity designed the master suite as a romantic getaway. Stepping into the master suite is a tranquil escape reminiscent of a romantic retreat with a cave-inspired design.

The master suite’s cave-like ambience is achieved through careful paint selection, curved ceilings and thoughtful lighting. The lighting was meticulously curated to allow different ambience. The entire bedroom was painted in a faint clay-textured paint colour with the curved ceiling elements flowing downwards seamlessly to the headboard and curtains’ linear lines. At the end of the corridor, a full length mirror mimics the impression of a cave entrance.

Understanding the client’s brief, Nu Infinity knew that the wardrobe space in the bedroom would not be sufficient. As a solution, the daily wear was placed at easy access in the master bedroom while the guest room was converted into a walk in wardrobe that every woman dreams of.

A drawer designed to accommodate hair dryers and curling irons keep the daily clutter out of sight. A pull-out full body mirror in the wardrobe and two big round mirrors at the dressing table creates ample dressing space for two people.

Summary

This extraordinary journey through an elegantly curated home for the young couple dignifies the art of design, where every corner holds a surprise and every detail whispers a tale of transformation. A parting thought: let your home be the canvas where memories are painted because a well-designed space isn’t just a space to return to, it is a sanctuary that transforms the ordinary into extraordinary.
